AmeriCorps*State Notice of Funding Opportunity for Healthy Futures and Safer Communities

RENO|LAS VEGAS, February 23, 2017 – Nevada Volunteers is pleased to announce the availability of federal funding in the form of grants to organizations seeking to have an operational AmeriCorps program for the 2017-18 grant year. This notice is targeted for AmeriCorps State grants in two identified priority areas: Healthy Futures and Safer Communities. These grants are awarded to organizations that propose to place AmeriCorps members solely in Nevada.

The funding priority Healthy Futures focuses on programs that reduce and/or prevent prescription drug and opioid abuse. The Safer Communities funding priority focuses on programs that strengthen law enforcement and community relations. Grant applications that do not address at least one of these priorities will not be eligible for funding. The targeted funds are available to new applicants and existing grantees at the following types of organizations: faith-based and other community organizations, institutions of higher education, government entities within states or territories, Indian tribes, labor organizations, partnerships or consortia, and intermediaries planning to sub-grant funds.

Operational grants provide funding to support a full-time program director and at least 10 FTE AmeriCorps members who will provide new services in the targeted funding priorities. Nevada Volunteers will consider applications that propose less than 10 FTE members and a part-time program director where it can be shown that the program design has the capacity to result in meaningful and significant impact.

“I encourage all eligible applicants to consider applying for this opportunity to bring additional funds and resources to Nevada communities where critical issues surrounding Healthy Futures and Safer Communities are unmet.” Said Laura Dickey, Director of AmeriCorps at Nevada Volunteers.

Interested applicants are encouraged to submit an application for funding consideration. Learn more about this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) during a Training and Technical Assistance call on March 2, 2017 from 2:00- 3:30 pm.
