Ways to help

Chemistry Work

Tracking the chemical and physical characteristics of a stream is important. It helps us learn what’s working—and where we can do more. So volunteer as a family, a group or on your own. And get ready to wade in the water, use scientific techniques and have some fun.

Weed Warriors

Learn to differentiate imposters from their native look-a-likes. Visit up to 10 sites, including on-going eradication projects and sites ready for investigation. Participate in hands-on, group eradication of specific infestations under the leadership of a trained botanist. Learn identification and removal techniques as well as critical disposal methods.

Biology Work

Knowing which benthic macroinvertebrates (BMIs) are thriving is a strong indicator of a stream’s water quality. Collecting, identifying and recording BMI populations helps us determine what’s really in the water.

How you help Volunteer to change the future. Anyone can help preserve our mountain home—from a toddler who pulls invasive weeds to a senior who re-landscapes their yard. We can all be part of the solution.
About us Back in the 70s and 80s, the Truckee River region was threatened. Species of fish had disappeared. Essential invertebrates were dwindling. Entire meadows were drying up. We believe a more sustainable tomorrow starts with the watershed. Our goal is to restore the resiliency of our environment—so nature and humanity can thrive together for generations. Today, Truckee River Day is just one piece of our work. We now spearhead multiple large-scale restoration projects, and assessment and prevention efforts.
